SC slams TV sting operations. Because they bring the atrocities/inefficiencies/stupidity/whatever of the Congress Govt. into public view ? Since the Congress formed the Govt. in 2004, India hasn’t exactly been a democracy. This move only reiterates the fact.
Hope common sense prevails in 2009 (for a change). :D

Yet another feather in Shoaib Akhtar’s cap. He has now been caught doping along with team mate and pseudo-superstar Mohammed Asif. Good that the ICC is getting serious about dope tests. Looks like Akhtar is in for a long ban. Just thinking aloud, didn’t Shane Warne escape with a short ban after he was caught doping ahead of the last World Cup. If the ICC now hands out a life ban to Akhtar/Asif, their pro-White attitude will only become all too obvious. :)

A Nobel cause!!

Ah finally Mohammad Yunus wins the Nobel Peace Prize. I dont think there was anyone who deserved it more than this man did. In an era where celebs vouch for eradicating poverty while making public appearances, here is a man who has taken a significant step towards DOING it. In the early seventies, he donated $27 out of his own pocket to a group of poor women, because they were too poor to qualify for the traditional bank loan. The Grameen movement has so far given out loans to more than 6.5 million people (mostly women) and has a 98% loan recovery rate! I dont think even the top 'commercial' banks in the world can match this. This just goes to show the bond Yunus shares with his people. This system of micro-financing has now been replicated across 40 nations.
Way to go Yunus saab. I salute you!!

Orhan Pamuk wins literature Nobel

Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk has won this year’s Nobel prize for literature.
Who won it last year? The year before that? Ok, who won the Physics Nobel this year?
I can’t answer any of these questions. Most of us would struggle probably. Gone are the days when academic accomplishments were noted by people. And the Nobel isn’t the elixir anymore. The euphoria is restricted to the Laureates themselves and the and amazement stops with the scientific community. Aren’t scientists public idols anymore?

We’ve probably lost interest in the Nobel because Indians don’t seem to be even remotely close of one in the next few years (Ashoke Sen, CNR Rao and Shri Kulkarni(to an extent) are the only hopes) and the US seems to be winning everything!

Why the name?

Why did I choose this name? Well, I am a coffee lover, like numerous others. But unlike those numerous other people, I have a strange problem. If I drink too much coffee (well, too much isn’t really too much. Say, if I have coffee once a day for 3-4 days on the trot), I end up having gastric problems, breathing trouble et al. No one knows why. So, more often than not, I’ll have to restrict my intake of coffee. And there are times, where I would be desperate for a mug of piping hot coffee, but can't. Then, I feel like an empty coffee mug. :-)
